The Ferry Attack in War of the Worlds (2005)

The 2005 version of War of the Worlds was directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Josh Friedman and David Koepp, loosely based on the novel of the same title by H. G. Wells. It stars Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Justin Chatwin, Miranda Otto and Tim Robbins, with narration by Morgan Freeman.

We see Tom Cruise’s character, Ray Ferrier, fighting for his life and the lives of his family in a world that is crumbling down around him.

This scene occurs about an hour into the film when refugees flee down a street trying to escape the attacking aliens. Ray Ferrier, his son, Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and his daughter, Rachel (Dakota Fanning) are being hustled down a street and onto a Hudson River ferry, grim-looking soldiers hollering at them along the way. They look like cattle or refugees, and every face in the crowd looks exhausted.

Moments later, the family arrives at the ferry. Just before getting onboard, they pause…and then look back over their shoulders, towards the camera: a Tripod has entered the horizon towering over the trees that surround it.

  2. Telling me that thing is only 10 stories? It completely dwarfs the trees and the the water barely covered their legs

  3. I never understood the whole "shield" concept, just place a bunch of mines down and wait for the pods to walk over them.

  4. I'd be so pissed if I just escaped extraterrestrials on land and they came by sea too. I'd honestly be pissed this whole movie in real life. Like every time they escape there's another one like :D. I'm pissed just thinking about it.

  5. 1:51 ohhhhh so that’s who burned down sherrel’s she shed……….

Uh,,, cal l victor cuz their gonna need a bigger insurance policy.

  6. “This isn’t a war,” said the artilleryman. “It never was a war, any more than there’s war between men and ants.”

  7. 6:05 They DEAD of hypothermia, the river HUDSON in WINTER? Chances of survival same as being sucked into a Tripod

  8. The Sectary of Defence: Mr President, we almost got wiped out by farmer aliens in their tractors.
    The President: So you mean…
The Sectary of Defence: Yes, sir. This time they are sending actual military forces.

  9. I completely forgot how brutal this film was, it's just so incessantly hopeless. Once you strip away military superiority you're just left with helpless people running like scared animals. Absolutely chilling.

  10. I love the scene when movie shows the city being destroyed by aliens 🙂 and when people are getting killed by aliens 🙂

  11. Me when being stealthy that's just about to attack: Surprise attack motha fucka!
